Visiting the church

Hailes church is open during daylight hours, and visitors are always very welcome.

The church, near to Winchcombe in north Gloucestershire, is situated in the small hamlet of Hailes at the foot of the Cotswold scarp. It sits opposite the ruins of Hailes Abbey, founded by Richard, earl of Cornwall, for Cistercian monks in 1246. The abbey site (which includes a splendid small museum), is managed by English Heritage, and is also well worth a visit. (However as of 1 April 2025, the site is now open only one weekend per month – see the abbey’s page on the English Heritage website for further details.)

Hailes is signposted off the B4632, a short distance north of Winchcombe on the road to Broadway. The church’s postcode is GL54 5PB

Free parking is available in the car park next to the churchyard (courtesy of English Heritage).
